The LSU Tigers have been dominating their SEC rivalry with the Mississippi State Bulldogs within the last decade. Now they hope they can continue their dominance on the way at Starkville in Week 2. Expectations are high heading in to a new season but we won’t actually reach see LSU play until this week after their opener against McNeese State was postponed due to lightning.
The Tigers had won 14 straight meetings with Mississippi State before last year’s loss in Baton Rouge and while they probably might have liked to play a complete game to be able to remove some rust they can’t afford a loss this week with the Bulldogs looking to make a statement at home.
LSU returns 15 starters from last years’s team that won 8 games and expectations will certainly be higher now around. Heisman trophy candidate running back Leonard Fournette could very well be the main returner along side three of the five starters on the offensive line and there is undoubtedly the Tigers will require their star rusher to hold much workload early on in that one while sophomore quarterback Brandon Harris becomes more comfortable.
These teams return several players that helped set up a mixed 63 points if they clashed at Baton Rouge last season and there is every reason you may anticipate another high scoring game. The Bulldogs can score points in bunches and they will sprinkle some new wrinkles in this weekend to catch LSU off guard. Meanwhile, the Tigers might start slow but they’ve enough offensive weapons led by Fournette to at the very least make this game interesting and it won’t be described as a surprise when this game explains the 50-point total.
