While World Series is starting to gain steam as the stretch run begins on the baseball diamond, the NFL regular season will be kicking off in a couple of weeks and there is a tasty matchup in New York (or technically, New Jersey), where the Cowboys will host the New York Jets and there will be a pair of brothers going up against each other, but on the sidelines.
Cowboys Jets Odds – Sunday, September 11th, 8:20 PM ET -The Jets have high hopes for this season after making it to the AFC championship in each of the past two years, and with their defense, New York always has a shot. Even though they didn’t get cornerback Nmandi Asomugha, they still have the other guy in the running for “best cover corner in the NFL in Darrelle Revis, and Antonio Cromartie is on the other side. The big question will be the middle of the defensive line, where Shaun Ellis will have to be replaced. On offense, all eyes will be on Plaxico Burress, who should play in his first regular-season game since getting out of prison. He can be a very dangerous red-zone threat for Mark Sanchez, and those who are football betting should watch how these two progress as you know head coach Rex Ryan will be.
Ryan will go up against his brother Rob, who took the defensive-coordinator job in Dallas in the first big change in the Jason Garrett regime, so expect a lot of blitzes on both sides in this game. The Cowboys will be excited to have quarterback Tomy Romo back and 100% healthy, and Dallas will also be looking to run the ball more effectively as they did after Garrett took over for Wade Phillips last season. The mystery that surrounds the Cowboys concerns their defense and in particular, their secondary is awful. It could be worse as cornerback Terence Newman may not be ready for this game due to an ailing groin.
The Jets are 4-point BetOnline.com favorites at home against the Cowboys, who haven’t played the Jets on the road since 2003, but they are 3-1 SU and ATS in their four trips to New Jersey, with all three games going under the posted total. The defenses should be the story in this game as the Ryan family, along with father Bud, has long been known as a group of geniuses on that side of the ball, so that should be fun to watch. The difference in this game will be the run game and the ability to control the clock, and we’re giving the edge to New York there. Take the Jets on an SU bet, but when it comes to the spread, the Cowboys are your sports pick.
