Mavericks In Trouble Heading into Playoffs with Ellis

Monta-Ellis’-Attitude-Dallas-Mavericks

With only 11 games left in the standard season, the Dallas Mavericks must make sure they stay level headed if they would like to improve on their seventh seed in the Western Conference standings. Unfortunately, that may show to be harder than people realize due to shield Monta Ellis reportedly having a poor impact on the psyche of the team.

Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle publicly shamed his team after their embarrassing effort in a 98-92 loss to the Phoenix Suns on Sunday. Ellis took the brunt of heat from the media because of him shooting 18.2 percent (4-for-22) from field, also he was 0-for-8 in crunch time. After the game, Carlisle did not allow Ellis to take the blame by himself, instead of one man he throw the entire team into the fire.

As for now, Carlisle and the players are receiving behind Ellis to show their support. Of course, that might change on a penny if he continues to bring down the morale of the team in this important part of the season.

Ellis leads Dallas in points per game (19.0) and minutes per game (33.8). Despite shooting 44.0 percent from the field, he leads the team in field goals attempted per contest (17.0) and field goals made per contest (7.5).

Thomas Harmer of sportsdiary365.com writes “This all starts with Monta Ellis. He’s been playing terrible both sides of the ball for a while now, since he came into the league he was always pretty crappy defensively. Right now, he’s clearly having troubles with Rondo running the offense, and he’s forcing shots as a result. Lots of people new this was going to happen. Both guys need to have the ball in their hands to be able to be successful. In the beginning, Rondo struggled since the offense was going right through Monta. Now that oahu is the other way around, Monta is struggling. What I’d want to see is Carlisle experiment with the lineup and have Monta coming off the bench in favor of Harris because he’s the better defender. I still believe this team could be good, but the guys just are not on a single page quite yet. Hopefully, this dysfunction could be sorted out by playoff time because I believe this team can beat pretty much anyone when hitting all cylinders.”
