The Phoenix Suns are playing without there mot Important player guard Eric Bledsoe it’s going to be a week due to a sprained right knee. As a result, now they got the 15th roster spot by signing free agent Leandro Barbosa he just signed a10-day contract on Monday, reports The Arizona Republic.
Barbosa has been playing back home in Brazil (with Pinheiros) while getting into game shape after recovering from a torn ACL. Barbosa previously played with the Suns for seven seasons from 2003 though 2010. During the 10-day contract the Suns play six games, which should give them plenty of time to determine if Barbosa warrants another 10-day deal.
Without Bledsoe, head coach Jeff Jeff Hornacek is starting Gerald Green at shooting guard and giving the backup point guard minutes to Ish Smith. Roster improvement! Hope Leandrinho gives Phoenix good quality basketball, especially in the ofensive end.
I think the biggest reason for the Suns ascension, equal to the deft Trading, is the terrific coaching of Jeff Hornacek. He just has a gift for knowing how to put a Team together and getting the max prodution out of them. You could see it in the Summer League games. Hornacek is a hard nosed WINNER that would improve any Team’s fortunes.
I wouldn’t worry about Goodwin’s development this season. The kid is only 19. He will kinda be a rookie next year too, and needs a lot of work to become a viable rotation player in the NBA.
This season was all about ‘ignite the future’, for sure, but it’s looking more and more like ‘ignite the present’ now. Barbosa simply gives the team a place to turn if that continues. You don’t want to have to rely on a couple rookies (Christmas and Goodwin) in the playoff picture.
