Will The Cowboys Sign Bryant and Murray?

It’s in the most effective interest of the Dallas Cowboys to sign both of their young playmakers who topped the league in numbers at their respective positions. Unfortunately, it won’t be as easy as simply wanting them to be on the team for the foreseeable future.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is going to do everything in his power to make sure wide receiver Dez Bryant, who dominate  top receiver this season in touchdown receptions, and DeMarco Murray, who had been easily the most effective running back statistically this season, are these players of the team in 2015 and beyond. With nevertheless, among only two ways it happens is if both players consent to take less money than they could get in free agency.

“It’s going to be a challenge,” Jones said, based on ESPN.com. “Could it be financially reasonable? No. Is it possible? Yes. But if you only looked at it from dollars and cents, it probably doesn’t look reasonable.”

If Dallas wants any shot at expanding their road to the playoffs beyond the divisional round next season, Bryant and Murray must certainly be on the roster. Quarterback Tony Romo has come into their own, the offensive line is solid and you will find other playmakers on the team, but there’s no question Bryant and Murray allowed the Cowboys to do a lot more than they would have without them. Actually, the case could be produced they might not even make the playoffs without those two players.

Clearly, among the two must certainly be signed to a long-term contract. It would be shocking if Bryant weren’t the main one to obtain the nod in that regard. Dallas could then use the franchise tag on Murray, which would cost them approximately $9.54 million in 2015. That is roughly $2.772 million less than what it would cost to use the franchise tag on Bryant.

The franchise tag is the most likely route because then it’ll buy Jones and his executive team time for you to figure out how to acquire a long-term finished with their top-tier running back. Another choice should be to restructure the contracts of other players on the team, although Jones specifically said he does not have any intention of redoing Romo’s contract.

In either case, if the Cowboys wish to expand on the success in 2014, Bryant and Murray both must certainly be a the main team in 2015.
